Scorch Builds: Splatoon Raiders' Other Deep-Floor Meta

The first Bottomless Buffet run past floor 900 with a published build, and it is not a freeze build.

Why Scorch Suddenly Matters

For three weeks the deep-floor conversation had one answer: freeze. Every documented Bottomless Buffet run past 700 was a charger, and every deep run whose build was actually known ran Ice Breaker. Then the streamer B2 posted a floor-902 record screen behind a Blaster built around Scorch, timestamped and endorsed by 新月, who held the floor-970 world record at the time. One published build at the frontier beats a dozen unpublished ones that happen to agree, because it is the only one you can copy.

The mechanical reason is one sentence long: Scorch damage is a multiple of your own attack stat, not a multiplier on the enemy's health bar. Everything scaled to enemy HP falls off as floors climb. A fixed tick does not. That is the whole thesis of this build, and it is why the archetype appeared at depth rather than in the story mode.

How Scorch Stacks

Scorch (炙り) applies damage over time, and unlike Freeze it does not get consumed by your next hit: it stacks up to three times, each stage roughly doubling the previous one. These are Game8 JP's figures:

StackDamageWhat it means
Stage 11,450One application. Already free damage on anything you were going to shoot anyway.
Stage 22,900Exactly double. Re-applying is worth as much as the first application was.
Stage 35,801The cap, and double again. Getting to three stacks is the entire build goal.

The underlying formula Game8 gives is that the continuous damage is about 0.3x your attack power, and specifically the attack figure shown on the level-up screen, not the weapon's listed damage. Two consequences follow. Your tank level, not your weapon choice, sets your Scorch ceiling. And the number scales with you rather than against the enemy, which is exactly the property that stops working for HP-multiplier builds somewhere past floor 500. Worth noting: the deep-climbing community had already circulated a figure of "roughly 6,000 per tick" before any wiki published a table. Game8's stage-3 value is 5,801. Two groups measuring the same thing, independently, and landing within 4% of each other.

Which Weapons Apply Scorch: All 11 Types

The Scorch Weapon Power rolls per hit, and the rate is set by weapon type. Game8 JP publishes the full table, including the Ignite rate, which governs the follow-up explosion. Slower weapons hit harder per roll:

Weapon typeScorchIgnite
Roller24%40%
Blaster24%40%
Splatana24%40%
Charger18%30%
Slosher18%30%
Brush18%30%
Stringer18%30%
Shooter9%15%
Splatling9%15%
Dualies9%15%
Brella9%15%

Read that table against the floor-902 run and something clicks: the Blaster sits in the top band for both Scorch and Ignite, 24% and 40%, tied with Rollers and Splatanas, and nearly triple a Shooter. Neither wiki recommends a Blaster for this archetype. The player who actually took Scorch past floor 900 picked the weapon the numbers point at, and the guides had not caught up. That is the most useful thing on this page: if you want to build Scorch on the weapon type the rate table favours, the Blaster, Roller and Splatana rows are where to start.

Gadgets Apply It More Reliably Than Weapons Do

A gadget part that carries Scorch procs at rates no weapon power reaches. This is why Game8's own recommended build runs a Splatling, a 9% weapon, and sources its Scorch entirely from the gadget slot instead:

GadgetScorch rateTank
Spinwheel (スピンホイール)60%Power
Splatellites (ヌリヌリサテライト)40%Power
Bombloons (ツナガルバルーン)30%Tactical
Booyarang (ジェットブーメラン)20%Speed

Three More Ways to Apply It

  • The relic power Squid Grill (イカ焼き) scorches any Salmonid you touch while in squid form. Since you are in squid form constantly to refill ink, this is close to a passive, and it upgrades to grade 3 by re-clearing the stage that drops it.

  • Big Man's Showstopper (張拳!マンタ輪舞) applies Scorch, which is the partner synergy this build wants. Our partners guide covers the Showstopper Gauge and the bond system that strengthens it.

  • Ignite (引火) is the payoff, not another source: attacking an already-scorched Salmonid sets off a flame burst that hits everything nearby and spreads Scorch to them. On crowded deep floors this is what turns single-target damage-over-time into pack clear.

The Published Scorch Builds

Five builds are in print, from four independent sources, and they disagree about the weapon in an instructive way. Note that the two wikis both source Scorch from the gadget slot and treat the weapon as a delivery system; the two runners do the opposite. Only the last one publishes its part rolls.

The only Scorch build with an attested depth behind it: a record screen reading floors 902–904, timestamped 02:40 JST, endorsed by 新月, who held the depth record at the time. The full slot list was not posted; what is confirmed is the weapon class and the archetype. Its author has since streamed the same Blaster at floor 935 (2026-08-16).

The first Scorch build published slot by slot, by its own author, for a stated 800F+ Bottomless Buffet loadout. Scorch here is one leg of a three-power weapon rather than the whole plan: freeze sets up Ice Breaker's multiplier, Scorch keeps damage ticking, and Explosive Ferment chains through whatever the Torqscrew has gathered. The full per-part rolls, itemised against the gadget cost cap, are on our gadget parts guide.

Hi-Fiver (Direct Damage Up, Line Damage Up, Count Up, Freeze) + Splatellites (Scorch) + Shot Pot (Auto-Trigger)

Gadget Boost (Finisher) + Ink Pro + Showstopper Power + デカイクラ収集家 + Power Master

A 9% weapon carrying a 40% gadget. The Splatling is here for uptime, not for procs: it feeds Ignite triggers while Splatellites does the applying. The Freeze part on Hi-Fiver is not a mistake: this is a hybrid, not a pure Scorch build.

Booyarang (Scorch, Auto-Trigger, Multi-Boomerang, ...) + Dash Bomb + Flywire

The three Master relic powers let one tank borrow the other two tanks' abilities; they come from the three Hidden Ruins. Squid Grill turns every ink refill into a Scorch application.

Meteor Mitt + Splatellites (Scorch, Auto-Trigger, Orbit Range Up, ...) + Flywire

Same weapon and powers as the Speed build; the tank changes what the gadget slots do. Splatellites at 40% is the highest-rate gadget either wiki actually builds around.

Where These Numbers Disagree With Ours

Our own gadgets guide says a status part gives a gadget a 10–20% chance to apply a status (33% for Freeze on Blast Boot, Meteor Mitt and Splatchet, and Ferment on Flywire), and that a weapon power rolls 2–4%. Game8's Scorch table says 20–60% for gadgets and 9–24% for weapons. Those are not the same numbers, and we are not going to quietly drop one set to make the page look tidy.

The likeliest explanation is that the two sources are measuring different things, a base rate versus a fully-invested max-grade rate, which would make both correct and neither comparable. That is a guess. Until someone confirms it in-game, treat Game8's figures as the relative ranking (Spinwheel > Splatellites > Bombloons > Booyarang; Roller/Blaster/Splatana > Charger-class > Shooter-class) rather than as absolute probabilities, and read our gadgets guide the same way. The ranking is what changes your build; the exact percentage rarely does.

Scorch FAQ

Is Scorch better than Freeze?

They solve different problems, and as of 2026-08-11 both have taken someone past floor 900 or close to it. Freeze is control: it stops attack wind-ups, it is the only hard crowd control in the game, and one frozen hit with Ice Breaker converts into an enormous multiplier, but that multiplier is spent on a single hit, and it is scaled to enemy health, so it stops one-shotting somewhere around floor 500. Scorch is throughput: it never gets consumed, it stacks three times, and its damage is a fixed multiple of your attack stat, so it does not care how much health the floor-900 Salmonids have. Deep builds increasingly run both.

What is the best weapon for a Scorch build?

By the published rate table, the top band is Rollers, Blasters and Splatanas at 24% Scorch and 40% Ignite. The only Scorch build documented past floor 900 is a Blaster, which fits. Both wiki builds instead use a low-rate weapon (Splatling or Shooter) and source Scorch from a gadget part, a legitimate second approach, since gadgets proc higher than any weapon.

How do I get three stacks of Scorch?

Stack sources rather than repeating one. A Scorch weapon power rolling every hit, a gadget part carrying 20–60%, and the Squid Grill relic power applying on contact in squid form will each apply independently. Then hit the scorched target: Ignite spreads Scorch to everything caught in the burst, which is how packs reach higher stacks without you targeting them individually.

Does Scorch work in the main story, or only deep floors?

It works everywhere, but it is worth the build slots specifically where enemy health has outgrown multiplier damage, which in practice means the Bottomless Buffet past a few hundred floors. In the story, a standard Ice Breaker freeze build clears faster.
