How the Story Works

Splatoon Raiders doesn't use linear chapters. Instead, you explore the Spirhalite Islands and dive into dungeons, roguelike missions where you fight Salmonids, collect loot, and find treasure. Completing dungeons and upgrading your Hideout Ship unlocks new islands, which advances the main story.

You play as a mechanic (Inkling or Octoling) who crash-lands on the Spirhalite Islands with Deep Cut: Shiver, Frye and Big Man. After building a makeshift home base, you raid the islands for valuables while fighting off hostile Salmonids.

Story structure: Official (Nintendo Direct, Wikipedia). Roguelike dungeon format: confirmed by hands-on previews.

Islands

The Spirhalite Islands are the game's overworld: 22 world islands plus three post-game ones, unlocking in rough story order. The full island-by-island stage list lives in our All Dungeons guide; here is the progression arc:

PhaseIslands
OpeningLehlo (crash-landing and tutorial), Erpp: the four opening stages.
Early gamePuos, Tygoru, Spata, Zapiz: first dens, ruins, and shard mining.
Mid-gameIzakaya, Ferdi, Cire, Narem, Gildred, Oftu, Trattoria: two of the three boss temples.
Late gameZeefer, Sypic, Cryur, Hissu, Keplic, Dasla, Rebda, Dretess, Glacerie, then the Great Salmon Mess Hall.
Post-gameAtke, Kinp, Suma: one Hidden Ruin each.

Dungeon Types

Each island has multiple dungeons of different types. The type determines the objective and loot:

Treasure Hunt

Find and collect treasure scattered throughout the dungeon. The main loot source.

Shard Mining

Focused on collecting Spirhalite Shards: the game's main currency.

Spirhalite Gem Search

Rare gem hunts with higher-tier rewards.

Buried Ruins

Multi-floor dungeon delves with relic discoveries. Tougher enemies, including Seasoned Salmonids.

Sampler

Skill Tome dungeons: complete them to unlock new abilities.

Past Adventures

Tutorial and story-focused missions that teach mechanics and unlock regions.

How to Progress

  1. Complete dungeons on your current island to earn loot and experience.
  2. Return to the Hideout Ship to upgrade facilities (weapon forge, gadget workshop, etc.).
  3. Meet facility thresholds to trigger story events and unlock the next island.
  4. Explore the new island's dungeons: repeat the loop with tougher enemies and better loot.
  5. Optional: revisit earlier islands at higher difficulty for rare drops.

The Hideout Ship

Your home base is the Hideout Ship, a makeshift camp built after your crash landing. Between raids, you return here to:

  • Inspect and equip weapons from your latest raid
  • Craft and upgrade gadgets
  • Upgrade facilities to unlock story progress and new features
  • Talk to Shiver, Frye, and Big Man for story dialogue and hints
  • Access multiplayer (create/join rooms)

Difficulty Settings

You can change difficulty at any time. It affects combat, not loot quality:

Tourist

Easiest: reduced enemy damage and aggression. Good for exploring and story.

Raider

Default: balanced challenge for experienced players.

Survivalist

Hardest: enemies hit harder and are more aggressive. For players who want a real challenge.

General Tips

  • Explore every corner of a dungeon before clearing it; hidden treasures and shortcuts are easy to miss.
  • Upgrade the weapon forge early. Higher-tier weapon crafting is the fastest path to stronger gear.
  • Talk to the Deep Cut members between runs. They drop hints about hidden dungeons and collectibles.
  • The game scales co-op difficulty automatically. Playing with friends gives better loot, not easier runs.
  • Don't skip Buried Ruins. They're harder, but the relic rewards and Seasoned Salmonid encounters are worth it.

Every Dungeon in the Game

The full stage list is published: all 61 main-game dungeons across 25 islands, with the Salmonid level of each and English–Japanese names matched row by row. That is the reference you want open while you plan a run. What it is not is a per-stage route guide. We publish the data we can verify, and step-by-step routes for 61 stages are not something we will fake. For the parts that do have verified strategy behind them, the boss bestiary and the farming-rate guide carry it.
